Klohn Crippen Berger is built upon the global experience of its founding firms which, over half a century, have earned a reputation for quality and innovation.
In 1951 Charles F. Ripley, a Harvard-trained soil mechanics engineer, formed Ripley & Associates. The following year he hired Earle J. Klohn and Cyril E. Leonoff. Ripley & Associates offer their clients qualified Canadian engineering specialists in soil mechanics and in doing so establish significant relationships with key clients. Ripley & Associates becomes the primary foundation engineering consultant to H.A. Simons, beginning a long-time relationship between the two firms.
In the 1970s Charles Ripley retired and Ripley & Associates was renamed Klohn Leonoff Consultants Ltd.
Meanwhile, in 1954 Glen Crippen, a water resources engineer, formed Crippen Wright Engineering, later renamed G.E. Crippen and Associates. In 1982, the company acquired CBA Engineering and expanded into the transportation sector.
In 1986 H.A. Simons diversified and bought Crippen Consultants Ltd. and in 1993, employees of Klohn Leonoff and of the Crippen and Toronto Divisions of H.A. Simons join Klohn Crippen to provide a fully-integrated multi-disciplinary service company.
In 1999 Klohn Crippen Consultants Ltd. established a strategic partnership with the Louis Berger Group Inc. to expand its global services.
In 2006, Klohn Crippen Consultants Ltd. became Klohn Crippen Berger Ltd. This name change reflects the strength and success of our partnership with the Louis Berger Group Inc. We’re proud to add their name to ours in recognition of our joint service to our valued clients.
