Klohn Crippen Berger’s office in Australia is in the Brisbane CBD, in close proximity to the beautiful riverfront district. Brisbane is Australia’s third largest city and one of the country’s significant business and mining hubs. Located on Australia’s far eastern coast, Brisbane is the capital of the State of Queensland and is an up-and-coming city known for its youth and high rate of job and population growth, fuelled by a boom in the resources sector. The cost of living is relatively low, though real-estate has experienced strong growth in recent years.
Brisbane has a humid subtropical climate with hot, humid summers and dry, mild winters. From late spring through to early autumn, thunderstorms are common over the greater Brisbane area. The city straddles the Brisbane River, and its eastern suburbs line the shores of Moreton Bay, a fishing and boating paradise. You can enjoy all forms of water-based recreation within an hour of Brisbane – surfing, diving, boating, skiing, fishing – the list is endless. If you are more terrestially inclined, you can explore the rainforests, mountains, and country escapes. Camping, and ‘going bush’ are regular weekend activities for locals and visitors alike due to the range of destinations within easy distance.
Brisbane has a rich natural history, and is also home to the Queensland Cultural Centre – which houses one of Australia’s finest art galleries – the Queensland Museum, Queensland Performing Arts Complex, and also the State Library. There is an active and continually evolving arts scene and some of the best live music and bands in the country hail from the city, with international acts regularly visiting a range of venues from intimate to stadium events.
Brisbane is at the doorstep of a long stretch of beautiful beaches and coastline, extending from northern NSW in the south all the way to the Great Barrier Reef, and including the sand barrier islands of North and South Stradbroke, Moreton, and the world heritage listed Fraser Island. With an international and domestic airport, and well established rail services, it is also a great hub from which to explore Australia, and the Asia Pacific region. The domestic air sector is relatively competitive, giving everyone the opportunity to experience the rest of Australia at reasonable cost.
Like all Australians, Brisbanites have a strong sporting culture, with national teams in the rugby league, rugby union, soccer, basketball, Australian rules football, netball and cricket codes. We also host test and one day international cricket each year, motor racing events, horse racing carnivals, and one round of the Indy Cart series is held on the Gold Coast each October.
