Our mine waste (geotechnical) experience includes:
- Tailings Disposal Design: Investigation and design of dam embankments, water release facilities and water handling, tailings deposition modelling and developing strategies for tailings co-disposal.
- Waste Rock Dump Design: Investigation and design of waste rock dumps, including developing strategies and construction methodology for segregated dumps to store acid forming waste and treatment of ARD.
- Engineered Cover Design: Evaluation of the optimum engineered cover, based on site climate and water quality targets. Covers with which we have experience range from water store and release to water shedding and multilayered oxygen barrier covers. Our design approach integrates climate/soil interaction, water infiltration, geochemistry and oxygen diffusion modelling. Our practical construction experience helps provide a constructible design for long-term performance.
- Process Plant Foundations: Field investigation and design of both statically and dynamically loaded foundations for plant and other infrastructure.
- Earthworks and Foundation Construction Monitoring: Our staff members are experienced in monitoring and directing a wide range of mine infrastructure construction; including earthfill dam embankments, diversion channels and foundation excavation and construction. Our normal practice is to have staff assigned to a project from design, preparation of technical specifications and drawings, through to construction and operation and into closure.
- Mine Closure: Development of mine closure strategies to ensure long-term stability to meet end-use targets for the overall mine site, tailings embankments and other final landform features.
- Tailings Water Management and Optimization: Detailed assessment of water recovery related to deposition practices and impoundment/climate interaction integrated with characterization and analysis of tailings settling, consolidation and water release properties.
