Client: Greater Vancouver Sewerage and Drainage District
Location: Coquitlam, British Columbia
Completion Date: 2004
Project Highlights: Surface and Groundwater Investigation
Klohn Crippen Berger provided environmental consulting services to the GVSDD to evaluate leachate reduction alternatives for the Coquitlam Landfill. Leachate daily flows and landfill cover
construction details and characteristics were reviewed and correlated to local precipitation data to determine inflows and outflow sources of the local landfill water balance. Surface water surplus
was modelled using the Thornthwaite Mather water balance model, while groundwater was modelled using SEEP/W and SURFER. Five leachate reduction options involving surface water and
groundwater management were evaluated and ranked based on a ten-year payback cost/benefit analysis.
Services:
- Surface water and groundwater modeling
- Landfill leachate reduction options
- Cost/benefit analysis
