La Joie Dam was constructed in the 1950s and its initial purpose was to provide storage for the Bridge River Generating Station downstream. In 1957, a 24 MW powerplant was constructed at La Joie, which produces an annual average of 170 GWh of energy. Klohn Crippen Berger evaluated the seismic performance of the dam, including the potential for liquefaction of foundation soil beneath the downstream toe, the performance of the impervious shotcrete face and the post-earthquake performance of the dam.
