Morrison Dam is an 1830 m-long, 17 m-high earthfill dam situated in southern Saskatchewan on the East Poplar River approximately 4 km north of the Canada – USA border. A service spillway, equipped with radial gates, and an auxiliary spillway channel have been provided to handle floods up to the inflow design flood. In addition, a low level outlet structure is used to provide riparian and apportionment flows.
The client requirement was for power at the low level outlet structure and the spillway radial gates to allow a “drill-pak” to be used to operate the gates.
The electrical work included working with the local utility to update the power feed to the area, power metering and distribution panels, cable sizing and routing, equipment selection and a cost estimate for installation.
This multi discipline project included modifications to the civil components of the spillway.
