Client: American Bridge/Fluor a Joint Venture
Location: San Francisco – Oakland Bay, CA, USA
The San Francisco Oakland Bay Bridge Seismic Safety Project is a highly publicized multi-billion dollar bridge replacement. When complete, the 10-lane San Francisco Oakland Bay Bridge will be the largest single–tower, self-anchored suspension bridge in the world. Teaming with American Bridge/Fluor Joint Venture, Klohn Crippen Berger Ltd. will provide construction engineering for the record breaking suspension span.
To support the construction of the self-anchored suspension span, Klohn Crippen Berger Ltd. will provide structural and geotechnical design for the temporary falsework towers and trusses. These temporary works will support the decks of the superstructure until the loads can be transferred to the suspension cables. The falsework, founded in the deep Bay muds, will be designed for seismic and ship impact loads for each stage of construction. Klohn Crippen Berger Ltd will provide erection staging of both the steel box girders and the permanent steel tower.
