Location: Vietnam
Completion Date: 1997-2001
Project Highlights: Remedial Works for Flood Control & Irrigation Systems.
Our client retained us to design and construct remedial works to flood control and irrigation systems. This included rehabilitation of a 45 km stretch of the Hanoi Dyke along the right bank of the Red River in Hanoi City; Song Chu Irrigation System Rehabilitation in Thanh Hoa Province, including the reconstruction of the 356 m long, 17 m high Bai Thuong Dam with lean concrete; and North Nghe An Irrigation System Rehabilitation in Nghe An Province.
This project improved living conditions and increased security for two million people. It created a base for economic development through agricultural growth and minimized potential devastating impact on lives, properties, economic structures and the environment due to dyke failure. It also prevented failure of two irrigation systems and stabilized and increased irrigation water supply to 80,000 ha of cultivated land. Finally, it prevented impending failure of the Bai Thuong Dam and threat of total failure of irrigation water supply to 30,000 ha of cultivated land.
