October 1, 2019

Alex Sy, Ph.D., P.Eng., Vice President, Technical at Klohn Crippen Berger received the G. Geoffrey Meyerhof Award yesterday at the 72nd Canadian Geotechnical Conference (GeoSt.John's 2019). This award is given each year by the Canadian Geotechnical Society (CGS) to an accomplished geotechnical engineer with outstanding contributions to soil mechanics and foundation engineering.

Dr. Sy has made outstanding contributions to foundation engineering in Canada and abroad. His project experience spans a wide range of projects from foundations for heavy industrial sites, ports and harbours, bridges, hydroelectric dams, and tailings dams. He also teaches and mentors young engineers.

A particular contribution of Dr. Sy was developing methods of obtaining standard penetration test (SPT) data in gravelly soils, and his work on Large Diameter SPT and Becker Penetration testing remains industry leading practice.
