Klohn Crippen Berger announces retirement of Tom Murray

July 6, 2022

Klohn Crippen Berger (KCB) announces the retirement of Tom Murray, P.Eng., after more than 40 years with the company. Tom officially retired from the company in 2020 but the celebration of his accomplishments and retirement was delayed until this year because of the pandemic.

Colleagues shared their well wishes for a man who helped shape many engineering careers during his decades-long career.

“Tom has been an integral part of, and one of the main drivers behind, whatever successes I’ve achieved throughout my own career, for which I am eternally grateful, ” said Bill Chin, Senior Geotechnical Engineer.

His sentiment was echoed by David Mack, VP, Alberta. "Tom is highly regarded by his peers and those that know him well will attest to his wickedly dry sense of humour that is only overshadowed by his wicked golf slice and hook.”

Tom joined KCB in 1977 as a Senior Geotechnical Engineer and was promoted to Manager, Geostructures, and Principal in 2006. Over the span of his illustrious career, he has been involved in wide-ranging projects across the water resources, oil sands, transportation, and industrial market sectors throughout western and northern Canada and overseas. Tom’s experience includes geotechnical assessments involving settlement analysis, earth embankment and excavation stability, pile and foundation designs, seepage cutoff barriers, failure modes and effects analyses, and dam safety reviews and performance evaluations.

In 2016, Tom was recognized for his contributions to the field of geotechnical engineering and honoured with the 2016 Calgary Geotechnical Society Award.
