Mayerthorpe Bridge Replacement Project Wins CCE Award of Excellence

October 25, 2017

Klohn Crippen Berger (KCB) has received the 2017 Canadian Consulting Engineering (CCE) Award of Excellence in the Transportation Category for our work on the Mayerthorpe Rail Bridge Replacement project. KCB worked in collaboration with the project owner CN, and other contractors to facilitate the fast-tracked construction. The award was presented to the project team on October 24 at the CCE Awards gala at the ACEC national leadership conference in Ottawa.

The original bridge, destroyed by fire on April 26, 2016, was redesigned and built in just 20 days, quickly restoring service back to the communities affected. The award selection committee was impressed with the team's agility and ability to make design adjustments that adapted to very difficult ground conditions with limited time and data available.

You can find more information about the project, including a timeline, in our 2016 Sustainability Report, as well as in the CCE magazine’s October/November 2017 issue (see p. 44-45).

Also take a look at our project's page on the ACEC website. It includes a video showcasing the project.
